Weekly Pirate Updates:  January 9th – 14th
  • There will be no Monday morning assembly on January 9th.
  • The PTA/FFS Association meeting has been rescheduled for 1/19 at 6:30pm in the library

Dear Stevenson Families,

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!
A 2014 New York Times article highlighted that art and engineering were not always completely separate disciplines. Leonardo da Vinci is recognized for combining science and art together. Galileo was a poet and literary critic, Einstein was a keen violin player, and Samuel Morse painted portraits. The original Apple Macintosh computer team came from backgrounds in anthropology, art, history, and poetry.
To encourage and strengthen teacher’s use of the arts, Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (LACMA) has developed an interactive professional development series in K-6 arts integration, titled Technology Enhanced Arts Learning, (TEAL) project. This professional development focuses on ways in which true arts integration supports learning in the classroom and addresses the Common Core State Standards and Californian Visual Arts Standards. Three Stevenson Staff members have gone through this training and will be providing professional development in TEAL over the next four months. We are very excited to continue arts and technology integration at our school.
